My first big trip alone away from my native New York City was back in 1988 when I ventured to Scotland! Throughout Highschool I worked my summers at Camp Lee Mar in Lackawaxen PA. The coolest people I met working at the camp were from overseas. When I asked them how they did it, they told me about a great work exchange program called "BUNAC". I looked into it & they helped me prepare for traveling, living & working abroad! Took 2 years for me to work & save money for my adventure and many tried to discourage me from going, but I stayed focused & did it! My first stop was Edinburgh Scotland! Loved living there on The Royal Mile & I ended up getting a great job at "The Rutland" on Princes street and never felt more at home anywhere else in the world! Scotland is One of my favorite places! My coworkers tricked me into eating haggis...they were amazed I actually loved it, my friends taught me how to drink & even amongst strangers I always felt safe & never felt alone! Lots of love & laughter shared! The people were welcoming, real, funny & warm; the architecture, history & scenery was incredible and I lived on a block between the Castle & The Palace! Scotland will always have a special place in my heart!
