The Hollywood Sign Cover Up

Photo: Denise Vasquez ©2010

Earlier this week

The LAPD sent out a community email alert

Stating that the Hollywood sign would be

"Covered up

For an international campaign

Until further notice"

They said they sent out the "alert notification"

To us Hollywood residents so we wouldn't

"Be alarmed"

When I heard about this

I was like

"WHAT?!?"

As everything was sooooo secretive

I felt Inclined to go down the street

To shoot some photos

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

I was out there

On The Hollywood Streets

Searching for the BEST locations

To shoot

The Hollywood Sign

It was POURING RAIN!

Yes, even during the rain storms

In the pouring rain

I was determined to get photos

Before the BIG "cover up"

My man Randy Martinez

Was a total trooper

Driving me around

He knew of a couple of GREAT spots

Beside my favorite one

Once upon a time

Randy was a Hollywood Tour Guide

This came in very Handy

AND

We had a LOT of fun!!!

One of my favorite things

About living in our neighborhood

Is being able to walk down the street

And see the Hollywood Sign

It's a beautiful

Symbolic

Reminder

Of why I moved to Hollywood

Ten Years Ago

When I heard the news

About the "Cover Up"

I was quite upset

That was Until

I read about the CAUSE

The reason behind it all

And got an understanding of

Why the sign is being covered

I read that The Hollywood Sign

"Will remain in place and there will be no changes done to the sign"

According to the Los Angeles Times

The Hollywood Sign is to be covered up

As part of a publicity stunt

By environmentalists

Who are trying to purchase the land

In order to

SAVE

One of the most famous

Lots of open space in Los Angeles!

Leaders of the

Public Trust for Lands

Intend to cover the sign

With a banner reading

"Save the Peak"

It hopes will help it raise the 11.7 million dollars

It needs

To buy the site from

Chicago-based property developer

That currently owns it

The trust has until April 14th

To complete the deal

I'll be back out there tomorrow taking more photos
