It always amazes me how tragedy brings people
People tend to ignore or mistreat each other
Day in and out and lose sight of
Others around them until a disaster strikes
If we came together on a daily basis
Maybe we wouldn't have as many tragedies
The world needs to start acknowledging
"We are an experiment
Can we live TOGETHER
As one race
The Human Race"
There's something to be learned
Sometimes it's easy to help someone else
And focus on others'
Problems & tragedies instead of
Reflecting & facing our own...
"I AM AMERICA CONCERNED WITH OTHER NATIONS
AT TIMES NEGLECTING MY OWN"
Don't get me wrong, I think it's GREAT that people are coming together to help
Haiti, they are in DIRE need of help...
I for one have been doing everything I can to help raise awareness...
If I had the money, I would donate $, volunteer and I would be on a plane
Unfortunately, like many fellow Americans, I can't help the way I would like to...
I have some concerns of my own about my life
about our country
As someone I know put it today
"Our economy is a DISASTER"
Unemployment, Foreclosures, Millions of families Homeless & Starving, Health
System & Education system crumbling...
I am amongst millions who don't have medical insurance...
I'm over here right now as I type this, walking around with a hand that's probably
broken because I can't afford treatment...
I'm going to go to the hospital & try to get treated...
I'll let you know how that goes...
That being said...
So many conversations pertaining to this have been circulating around the
internet more & more every day...
I can't help but wonder...
What's wrong with this picture?!?
Again, I'm not saying we shouldn't help!
We should always come together to help those in need!!!
But when will we apply this mentality to our own country?!?
When are more people going to step up & do something to help Americans in
need of help?!?
Perhaps some people assume because their lives in America are GREAT, that so is
Lets begin by focusing on our own backyard for a moment:
How about getting the millions of starving & homeless children & families off the
"Skid Row" is no longer just downtown Los Angeles...it's everywhere!!!
I see it more and more daily, and I pray to God I don't end up on the streets!
When are Americans going to come together for America!?!
"THE ONLY WAY TO BETTER THE WORLD IS TO BEGIN BY BETTERING OURSELVES"~Denise Vasquez
I'd like to share a poem I wrote in New York City some time ago, but I feel it's appropriate:
by Denise Vasquez
The man sleeps
In the subway car
Have a home
What has led him
To his condition
One man stares
Once he was a man
Written on their face
Expression of disgrace
I see a member
Of our human race
I don't see a color
Or a name
I see society
I feel shame
