"Rockin' PeAcE LoVe Hippie Angel" Munny by Denise Vasquez

How did my "Rockin' PeAce LoVe Hippie Angel" Munny come to be?

I've been working on finalizing the development of my "Pepper The Dragon" character, soon to be released at Dragon Con in Atlanta on Sept 4th 2009...

I am SOOOO excited about how my character turned out which I created & designed...and it was illustrated by my man Randy Martinez! Those that are attending Dragon Con will be the first to see & I'll be posting here in a blog later...

Where was I....

Oh yes, I was itching, feeling the need to do some 3D art...

I've been limited on time to actually sculpt something myself (my schedule is BEYOND hectic in a GREAT way right now)...

As I mentioned, I felt the need to create 3D art, I knew "KidRobot" sold Blank Do It Yourself MUNNY, so off I went to "KidRobot" here in Los Angeles on Melrose...

I wandered around the store...taking in everything surrounding me...soaking it all up like a dry sponge...

I couldn't help being inspired...

I was surrounded by an eclectic variety of vinyl figures created by some of my favorite artists (Frank Kozik, Tara Mcpherson & Joe Ledbetter...to name a few!)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...it was all sooooo refreshing!!!

My kind of art...

The colors...

The characters...

The uniqueness...

The Creativity...

Each artist has an inviting, unique, interesting style of their very own that is easy to identify!

I was on a mission to get a blank "Munny" wanting to create something in my style...

Little did I know that the "Munny" came in a few different sizes & colors...

Woo-Hoo!

I was soooo excited, but didn't want to get too ahead of myself as this would be my first attempt at making my very own "Munny"

I decided to start on a small one...this way my experimenting wouldn't be too costly!

The Blue Munny practically jumped off of the shelf at me...

I listened to the calling...

I asked the woman at the cashier if I needed to prime my Munny before painting it & she told me that I could just paint right on it...

SWEET!

So I get home, take out my Munny, and I open the "Mystery Accessory" that came with it...

It was a blank sign...in EVERY way!

Hee hee (^.^)

What do I mean?!?

Well that little Accessory was the trigger that set me off!

I started sketching on paper first to get my idea down...

I decided to incorporate some of my trademarks that I've used in a number of my original pieces over the years ©Denise Vasquez (My HEART EYES, My PEACE LOVE HEART, and my SWIRLY CURLS)...

And there it was...

The blueprint for my "Rockin' PeAcE LovE Hippie Angel"

With a pencil, I sketched directly onto the Munny...

Once I had my sketching done on the Munny, I decided to try the red marker that also came with the Munny...

The marker seemed to smudge a little & I wasn't quite digging the look of it on my Munny...it wasn't what I was wanting for this piece...

So I decided to use Acrylic paint...

The colors that came to mind were red & black, so I followed my instinct & went for it...

I have these really nice "Golden" Fluid Acrylics in red & black so I decided to try those knowing it would have a nice gloss finish...

For the white paint I wanted more of a Matte finish, so I used "Liquitex" Basics...I added a little water to thin the paint...

A few challenges I faced were:

-Using the proper sized paint brush
-Having patience in allowing the paint to completely dry
-Having a steady hand

The best way to learn sometimes is by DOING!

I did a few of coats of paint on my "Rockin' PeAcE LoVe Hippie Angel" Munny...

While I was painting my "Swirly Curls" on My Munny, I felt there was still something missing...

It finally came to me when I saw the jars of beads I have in a variety of colors...

I carefully placed glue in specific areas within my "Swirly Curls"...

And Wha-La...

Presto...

My "Rockin' PeAce LovE Hippie Angel" Munny was finished!

Stay tuned for more & be sure to follow my blog!
